VISITS AND WORK IN LONDON

Aug. 11th. We engage tickets for Australia on the "Great Britain," a heavy full rigged steamer, 350 x 52 feet. Then we took cab rides through London and from the streets, saw London Bank, Royal Exchange, Houses of Parliament, Westminister , Buckingham Palace, Duke of Wellington Monument, St. Paul's and others of the leading places. I attended Relief Society and other meetings and spoke at each.

  1. The Great Britain was one of the first screw propeller steam ships. Originally launched in 1843 it set the record for an Atlantic crossing but was soon sold after being mistakenly run aground in Ireland. Her new owners began trips to Australia to service the Australian gold rush in 1851 but was still in service in 1875. The SS Great Britain is restored today in Bristol. See the wikipedia page for great technical details and more history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Great_Britain
